Hardangervidda crossing
About the Hardangervidda crossing
The Hardangervidda Crossing is a legendary winter journey across Northern Europe's largest high-mountain plateau.
This is a committed, linear expedition that takes you deep into Norway's pristine, remote wilderness. Over several days, you will learn the rhythm and routines of expedition life, and travel across vast, sweeping white expanses. It is a chance to truly disconnect, test your endurance, and find quiet in the high mountains.
You will be following in the footsteps of history; the plateau was famously used as a training ground by great polar explorers like Nansen and Amundsen .
The Hardangervidda Crossing is a genuine and demanding adventure. It provides excellent preparation for larger polar challenges like Greenland, and it will leave you with lasting memories of true mountain wilderness.

Plan
Day 1 Arriving at Finse, and starting the trip
We arrive at Finse, the remote station that serves as our gateway to the Hardangervidda plateau.
After gathering our gear, the critical work of preparation begins: packing the pulkas.
With the pulkas packed, we click into our skis and leave Finse behind, and officially begin the Hardangervidda Crossing.
Day 2-7 Skiing South
Days 2 through 7 are the heart of the expedition. We settle into the simple, demanding rhythm of life on the trail.
Each day we cover around 15 to 25 kilometers, pulling our pulkas across the vast plateau.
You will experience the full range of Hardangervidda, from long sunny days of quiet, endless visibility to challenging whiteout and strong winds.
Day 8 Arriving at Haukeliseter
Day 8 is the final, rewarding push. We tackle the last kilometers, ending in a a steep descent, before we ski off the vast Hardangervidda plateau.
We arrive at Haukeliseter Fjellstue, the classic mountain lodge that marks the official finish line of the crossing.
